Phase 2 Construction Updates and Detours

Current Traffic Update:

Phase 2 construction will include closures on Tremont Street from South Kitsap Boulevard through Roland Avenue and on Pottery Avenue from Tremont Street to the intersection of Alder Lane and Tremont Place.

Two-way detours will be in place and monitored to maintain traffic flow. Businesses and residential areas will be accessible; however, thru traffic will not be possible. Please be mindful of detours through residential areas and adhere
to the speed limits.

Phase 2 Details:

The project will be constructed in four phases. Phase 2 construction of the Tremont Street widening project will include traffic detours to allow for installation of two new roundabouts, utilities, widening the road, and paving. All businesses and residential AREAS will be accessible during construction.

Phase 1: July 2017 – February 2018
  • Open House
  • Construction on Tremont from S Kitsap Blvd to Port Orchard Blvd
  • Construction north side Roundabout at Pottery Ave
  • Two-Way traffic shifts to the north side of Tremont between SR 16 and S. Kitsap Blvd
  • Two-Way traffic moves down center of Tremont between S. Kitsap Blvd and Pottery Ave
  • Two-Way traffic shifts to the south side of Tremont between Pottery Ave and Port Orchard Blvd
  • Improvements will be made along Tremont Pl W and Alder Ln for Phase 2 detour
Phase 2: February 2018 – Fall 2018
  •  Phase 2 detour implemented:
  • South leg of Pottery Ave is closed
  • Detour route using S Kitsap Blvd to Pottery to May Street to Roland Ave to Tremont
  • Limited access to local business and residences along Tremont between Pottery Ave and S Kitsap Blvd
  • Water and sewer from S Kitsap Blvd to Roland Ave
  • Remove existing utilities
  • Rock wall construction
  • Complete roundabout at Pottery Ave
  • Complete roundabout at S. Kitsap Blvd
  • Two-Way traffic moves down center of Tremont between S Kitsap Blvd and Pottery
  • Traffic is on final configuration along Tremont
  • Paving at SR 16
Phase 3: Fall 2018 – Spring 2019
  • Landscaping and irrigation
  • Completion of curb and gutter
  • Contractor shifts traffic as needed to complete final HMA wearing course
  • Channelization
  • Project Completion scheduled for Spring 2019

Construction Kickoff ( Past Activity)

Active Construction Inc. was awarded the 2017-2018 Tremont Street Widening-Construction Phase Project at the June 27, 2017, City Council meeting. Construction will start at the SR16 interchange and end at Port Orchard Boulevard. With the current proposed schedule, construction will begin in August 2017 and the scheduled for completion in Spring 2019.

A public open house kicked off the project in July 2017. Short-duration detours are on the schedule in Phase 2 and Phase 3. These are described in more detail in the proposed project phasing schedule above. Public transit will continue to provide service to this area. At various times, buses will be detoured onto South Kitsap Boulevard and Pottery Avenue south of Tremont Street. As construction continues, Active Construction Inc. will provide more information on the detour routes, and when it is available, we will post updates on this page.
